Therapists for college students near 30332
College is a time of immense growth, but it can also feel like you're expected to have everything figured out. The pressure to choose the right major, land the right internship, and map out your entire future can feel suffocating. I know this firsthand - I changed careers a few times before finding my path in counseling. I understand what it's like to sit with the uncertainty of wondering whether you're on the right track and feeling like you're falling behind while everyone else seems to have it together. Whether you're adjusting to a new campus, navigating the independence of college life, or struggling with anxiety and depression, I provide a space to unpack those pressures and reconnect with what actually matters to you. I also enjoy working with student-athletes. Balancing the demands of academics and athletics comes with a unique set of pressures. When so much of your identity is tied to performance, it can be difficult to know who you are outside of your sport. There are a lot of challenges involved such as adjusting to a new team environment, managing the weight of expectations from coaches and peers, or facing burnout and the emotional toll of competition. Together, we can work to build resilience that extends beyond the field or court and help you develop a stronger sense of self that isn't solely defined by your achievements. In therapy, I offer a warm, collaborative approach where healing happens through genuine connection. I believe people suffer most when they are living out of alignment with their own values and desires rather than the expectations placed on them by society, family, coaches, or culture. Part of our work together is identifying those messages and exploring which ones are truly yours.
College can look exciting on the outside — but behind the scenes, many students feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure they’re keeping up. You may be juggling classes, pressure to succeed, shifting friendships, family expectations, and big decisions about your future — all while trying to hold it together on the outside. If you feel anxious, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unsure of yourself, you’re not the only one. I work with students who care about doing well but feel burned out from trying to keep up. Many struggle with anxiety, procrastination, trouble focusing, low confidence, perfectionism, or feeling like they don’t quite fit in. Others feel stuck after a setback, unsure about their direction, or overwhelmed by the independence and responsibility that come with college life. Together, we will focus on understanding what’s driving the stress and building practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control. We might work on managing anxiety, improving focus and organization, navigating relationships, strengthening confidence, and creating a healthier balance between achievement and well-being. I offer a supportive, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can be real about what you’re going through and feel understood. My goal is to help you make college feel more manageable and to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of who you are.

I appreciate that reaching out for help is not always easy. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe in expressing your feelings and fears, hopes and desires; and to help you obtain a sense of control over your life. Changes can result in unexpected and often unwelcome transitions that can provoke anxiety. This can impact relationship difficulties and other aspects of life. With a gentle and sensitive approach, I help you to feel supported and skillfully guided to manage and reduce anxiety, access hidden strengths and potential and develop new skills for living a more balanced and possibly joyous life.
I welcome clients 20+ with life issues including anxiety, life transitions, self-compassion practice, family/relationship/boundary issues, self-esteem, stress of parenthood. If you feel burnt out, like you are doing too much, and that saying "no" feels overwhelming to consider, I might be a good fit for you. In addition to psychotherapy, I received training in Mindfulness and Meditation which helps with anxiety, emotional awareness, and self-compassion. I also use DBT skills training because I find that some behavioral work can be useful depending on each client's therapeutic process. I look forward to joining you in your journey when you are ready.
I love working with clients who are open to utilizing mindfulness to help them to respond more effectively to difficult thoughts and feelings in order to live out their most important values and create the life they desire. I practice both ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). I also enjoy working with clients who want to work through spiritual/religious concerns and or utilize their spirituality/faith to help them on their journey.

I specialize in working with college and graduate students, young professionals, and couples, empowering them to develop skills to manage anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, and explore their self-identity. I also work with first generation and children of immigrants and am committed to maintaining a culturally-informed practice that honors the different ways that people experience and think of their identity. Navigating the complexities of life can be challenging, especially when you’re dealing with things like anxiety, relationship issues, and major life transitions. Maybe you're struggling with the pressure of classes, or with adjusting to your new environment and building relationships. Or you might feel like you’re always anxious about getting things right or not knowing what's going to happen, and worry is becoming exhausting. Perhaps you're at a point where you want to learn more about the impact of your cultural background on your identity and explore the experiences you've had. Going to therapy can be a courageous step towards personal growth and self-reflection to develop the tools needed to manage symptoms and align ourselves more with our goals. Whether you're navigating major life transitions, managing work-related stress, or facing challenges in your relationships, my practice provides a supportive space to help you build resilience. By incorporating evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with compassion and mindfulness focused models, I provide a non-judgemental and empathetic environment in my work with clients. For couples therapy, I utilize the Gottman method to help couples improve their relationships. I am licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC015213). I earned my M.S. in Counseling with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in Psychology, English, & Classical Studies from Emory University. I provide both in-person and virtual sessions to make therapy accessible and convenient for clients in the Decatur area and beyond. Whenever you’re ready to take a step towards therapy, I would be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process over an initial consultation. My hopes for you during the counseling process are that you feel heard and seen, begin to see things in a new way, get moving where you feel stuck, and discover strengths you didn’t know you had. I especially love working with college students as they navigate life and career transitions, balance their academic and social commitments, and develop their unique identity. Hello; My name is Shane Blasko. I am a Licensed Psychologist. The style of therapy that I utilize is compassion-based interpersonal therapy, which is based on the idea that the relationship between a person and their therapist is extremely important. I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy; it is an important relationship through which we can heal from past traumas, work through life transitions, learn to communicate more effectively, and learn to manage disruptive symptoms through learning more effective ways of coping, and understanding why we cope the way we do. I believe that it is important for therapists to try to understand the different contexts that each client is coming from; this means that I am dedicated to learning more about how each client experiences the world, and makes sense of it. I believe that each individual is unique, and that part of the job of the therapist is to try to understand how the client makes meaning of their experiences, and to assist the client with their goals.
I love working with women, specifically in their 20s-40s. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, mom and stepmom who cares deeply about supporting women and their partners as they navigate challenges and seek to have fulfilling relationships. Many of the women I work with are high-achieving, thoughtful, and carrying more than they let on. They're juggling the load of all the roles they fill, tend to put others before themself, are feeling disconnected or hurt in a relationship, or have a hard time quieting the constant chatter in their minds. With a spirit of authenticity, transparency, and some humor, I help women and couples to feel seen and understood as we unpack current or past issues and create a new path forward.
At Ash Tree we have therapists that utilize a trauma informed and strengths based approach to meet the needs of our clients. We have therapists that specialize in working with complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and other life transitions.
I am so honored you found yourself here. I believe therapy works best when you feel deeply understood—not analyzed or rushed. Before I’m a therapist, I’m a human who values gentleness, curiosity, and compassion. It’s truly a privilege to sit with folks as they share their stories, their pain, and hopes for something different. I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent (or “neurospicy”) humans and those whose nervous systems have been shaped by trauma. Therapy with me moves at a pace that honors your body, your boundaries, and your unique way of being in the world. There’s no pressure to perform or “fix” yourself. My work is grounded in experiential and somatic approaches, meaning we don’t just talk about what’s happening—we gently explore how your experiences live in your body, emotions, and relationships. This can be especially powerful for healing complex trauma, navigating chronic pain and reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have learned to stay guarded. If you desire to connect with a therapist that cultivates a safe space for you to explore healing without judgement and approaches your experiences with curiosity and empathy I invite you to this space. As a fellow neurodivergent, chronically ill, queer woman - I understand how exhausting life can be. Let us explore what living authentically means for you.
As a therapist, I work with depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and significant life transitions. Having particular insight into dysfunctional family systems, I offer compassionate support for those navigating complex family-of-origin experiences. At the heart of my practice is the belief that everyone possesses the capacity to heal and grow. I create a therapeutic environment characterized by compassion and curiosity, providing a safe space for clients to explore experiences, discover strengths, and move toward meaningful change. I specialize in working with clients who want to heal from the experience of growing up in addicted or dysfunctional family systems. By examining childhood trauma and generational patterns, we will work to foster the emotional growth, improved relationships, and freedom from codependency that emerge when we rediscover our authentic selves and live in alignment with our personal integrity. I also worked in student affairs/higher education administration for 13 years and have extensive experience supporting young adults through the various challenges of adjusting to, navigating, and transitioning to life after college and graduate school.
Many university students seek support when the usual ways of coping stop working. Even high-achieving, motivated students can find themselves struggling to focus, stay organized, manage emotions, or just feel like themselves. It’s not always obvious what’s going on at first—but there’s often more beneath the surface. I work with students dealing with: ADHD – trouble with focus, time management, procrastination, or follow-through Anxiety – persistent worry, racing thoughts, panic, or physical symptoms like tension or trouble sleeping Depression – low energy, lack of motivation, disconnection, or loss of interest in things that used to matter OCD – intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, mental loops that are hard to break Trauma – past experiences that affect how you respond to stress, relationships, or daily life Bipolar disorder – changes in mood, sleep, or energy that feel destabilizing or confusing Neurodivergence – navigating a world not built for your brain, and looking for care that meets you where you are Some students are already on medication and want to review or adjust their treatment. Others are starting from the beginning, looking to understand what’s going on and what options are available. Either way, the goal is the same: to feel more grounded, more capable, and more like yourself again. I offer convenient virtual appointments that can be requested online, as well as in-person visits at our Scottdale, GA location.
