Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
Are you in emotional pain? Do you feel stuck? Has it been awhile since you felt like yourself? Do you feel disconnected from others and perhaps even yourself? Are you in need of support as you navigate a challenging life circumstance? If so, we should talk. I specialize in helping young adults figure out why they feel the way they do and what needs to change to live a more authentic, connected, and meaningful life. For 14 years I have worked alongside diverse undergraduate and graduate students at university mental health clinics, and I would be honored to work with you. I will help you to slow down and lean into your full range of emotions, especially the uncomfortable ones you are so good at avoiding. Together we will examine ways your past is connected to your present, identify problematic relationship patterns, and figure out how you want to start applying these insights to your life. This style of therapy goes beyond symptom reduction and heals underlying problems in a way that leads to long-lasting change. It is often an intense and challenging process, but I will be there to support and guide you as we explore the terrain of your inner life. And rest assured, there will be plenty of moments of lightness and laughter along the way! I work especially well with clients who are motivated to improve their relationships with themselves and others. In addition to providing individual psychotherapy I have a passion for offering interpersonal process groups. In these groups 6-8 people come together on a weekly basis to support and challenge one another. I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist and over my career I have led over 60 of these groups. Many clients have found that group therapy was able to accelerate their healing and growth in a way that individual therapy alone did not. Clients of all identities and backgrounds are welcome in my practice. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Think I might be a good fit? You can out-think nearly any problem, situation, or person. You are innovative, curious, and perceptive and your intellect has helped you achieve most of your goals. Yet relationships prove difficult, and when you aren't able to think your way out, you retreat into your mind and detach from others. You become more cynical, abrasive, and nihilistic. Your intelligence has shielded you from difficult questions related to your functioning in relationships with others. You want the same sense of satisfaction and value in relationships that you experience nearly everywhere else. You need a judgment-free place to make meaning through the exploration of your life circumstances, beliefs, and values. I encourage deep thinking and questioning. I won't give you worksheets, and I won't try to align your desires and fears with that of the masses. I appreciate your individuality and encourage you to call forth your inventive, independent, and curious self to all areas of life. It is not enough to just observe and study life, you must participate as well. I'm ready when your are.
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, sarcastic human, & fellow unrooter. In a few words, my style is down to earth, collaborative, and relational. Laughter = therapeutic; swearing = basically a pre-req. Oftentimes, the universe seems to enjoy throwing curveballs right when life starts to settle. And it can be damn helpful to have a safe space to sort through it all. I join clients in navigating these ‘unexpecteds’ and strengthening into their ‘you’ in the process.

When Henry Thoreau gazed at the summer tree and said that “the tenderest fruit needs the tenderest handling,” as a therapist, I believe it's equally true to our mind and our experiences. My role as the therapist is to create a safe and intentional space for you and to lean into the inner strength that may be shadowed by past wounds, present stress, or the hopelessness of the future. My clients include individuals who have experienced trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, sexuality struggles, or any adjustment issues. It is my passion to support clients of Asian descent and Chinese international students with racial identity and acculturation challenges. My vision for this work is driven by being a first generation Chinese immigrant and my professional experience. When I am not working, I enjoy keeping my egg-laying hens, working on my vegetable garden, biking, and cooking authentic Chinese food for my family.
We provide a safe space for you to learn ways to comfortably understand your thoughts and your feelings.
I meet clients where they are at by building upon existing strengths and providing a nonjudgmental space for self-exploration and growth. I value honesty, empathy, curiosity, and humor in my practice. The foundation of my work uses person-centered and relational therapy techniques. I may pull from psychodynamic, solution-focused, or narrative therapy. My therapeutic approach is for those looking for support, self-reflection, alternate perspectives, and accountability. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults for individual therapy. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship dynamics, life transitions, and confidence. I believe authentic conversations about identity, including exploration of sexuality, gender, race, and class are an important part of our therapeutic work together.
Through therapy, CARE Counseling’s clinicians work with you to understand the challenges you are facing while establishing a positive therapeutic relationship to help you create and achieve your goals.
College is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful! For over fifteen years, I've worked with undergraduate and graduate women as they navigate burnout, relationships, juggle work and school, decide on a career path, and figure out who they want to be in life. Together, we'll identify your strengths, then use those to enhance your coping and help you overcome challenges. My therapy office is a warm and hopeful space where you'll find support to reach your goals.
I am a registered dietitian nutritionist working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating and other feeding concerns. I practice from a weight inclusive and non-diet lens and I love instilling confidence and knowledge in clients as they strive towards peace with food and body. I truly believe everyone is capable of cultivating an enjoyable and intuitive relationship with food given the right tools and support.
My clients are often either grieving, caring for a parent or spouse, or experiencing their own chronic or terminal illness. Many of my clients are adult children caring for an aging parent.
To people looking in from the outside, your life looks pretty great. On the inside, though? You’re replaying a conversation from last week on repeat, wondering what they thought of you and whether you should or shouldn’t have said this or that. You often overthink or overanalyze decisions to the point where you feel paralyzed in making a choice at all. Imagine a life where you… - No longer feel controlled by your thoughts - Can celebrate your imperfections - Feel confident making decisions & expressing your point of view - Are driven by your true passions & values I specialize in working with clients who are craving a sense of freedom in their lives. They’re tired of feeling defined by their anxiety or like no one in their life can really understand what they’re going through. My clients are willing to get vulnerable and embrace their imperfections (even when it’s uncomfortable) in order to make a difference in their life and their world. My approach to therapy is direct, honest, and driven by methods that actually work. I want to help you identify what’s truly important to you, confront your fears, and create change in your life.
