Trauma and the destabilizing events of our lives can impact our ability to grow no matter when or how they happen. We can find ourselves in harmful or unmanageable cycles that persist. By creating a safe space to creatively experiment in therapy you can provide yourself with the means and intention to grow. As a Clinician I have worked with clients experiencing addiction, the impact of trauma, and family dysfunction. Perhaps these challenges have led to unhealthy behaviors that don't fit who you are and what you need anymore. Or that you have reached many of your goals but realize the cost has been an internal battle that persists. I am passionate about partnering with my clients to create that safe space and have been inspired by witnessing what happens when it is created. Using a trauma informed lens I offer concrete tools for growth for those experiencing acute symptoms and mindfully move folks into deeper and more intimate somatic and creative interventions when ready.

I believe that every individual can benefit from psychotherapy. In life, one will encounter hardship; psychotherapy offers a safe space for individuals to receive support without judgment or thinking they are beholden to someone. In my therapeutic work, I strive to help individuals face a variety of challenges, such as depression, grief, anxiety, life transitions, academic difficulties, gender and sexual identity concerns. I specialize in working with cancer patients and their families, LGBTQ+ and disabled folx, which is informed by my positionality as an Asian-American cisgender lesbian that is a caregiver to someone with metastatic cancer. My clients generally describe me as a psychotherapist who is thoughtful, empathic and warm in my communication style. I aim for a transparent and collaborative relationship with my clients. If it sounds like we would be a good fit, you can reach out to the clinic I work out of at 212-889-4042. The clinic Intake Coordinator will be happy to schedule a consultation. Our clinic operates on a sliding scale basis, so your fee will be adjusted based on your income. I will be in touch within 24-48 hours to set up a time for us to meet. I take a holistic approach to healing, focusing on Psychotherapy, In my 15 years of experience working with people diagnosed with mental illnesses, and severe traumas, I observed that treatments often ignored holistic methods to healing. Through listening, caring, and working together with my clients, I recognized that some emotional and psychological issues are often managed by initiating small life changes and making healthier choices. My goal and passion is to assist and empower my clients to identify the changes they choose to make to have the life they have desired. I will assist them in achieving their goals while supporting them as they carry out their plans to live a healthier life. Please notes sessions can be face to face or virtual.

I love the privilege of working with creative, insightful individuals looking to better understand themselves. Based on what you find useful, we’ll incorporate existential, artistic, spiritual, and humanistic approaches. From me, you can expect warmth, investment, and- where appropriate- humor to support increased perspective. This highly personalized process is one of the best efforts any of us can make for our health. Experienced in treating ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, depression disorders (MDD, PDD), and generalized anxiety. Healing is nonlinear, therapy is best when it’s unrushed, and it’s really important that it happens at your own pace. I am a final-year clinical student at Columbia, focusing on treatment for young adults and adolescents, and did my BA at Yale. "It was what I was born for—to look, to listen, to lose myself inside this soft world." —Mary Oliver, "Mindful"

Hi! My name is Katie (she/her), and I’m excited to work together. My goal is to help you feel safe, comfortable, and free to open up at your own pace. I believe our experiences—past and present—shape the way we think, feel, and move through life. By exploring and validating your thoughts and emotions, we can start to untangle patterns, make sense of what feels overwhelming, and work toward healing. I’m here to support you whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, grief, body dysmorphia, sexual and gender identity issues, relationship/work stress, and/or chronic illness. Finding the right words to express what you’re feeling isn’t always easy, and that’s okay. Sessions are tailored to what feels right for you. We’ll draw from psychodynamic, somatic, creative arts, and other trauma-informed approaches. Empathy, warmth, and humor are central to my practice, creating a space where you can explore and grow. Currently, I’m an MSW student at Yeshiva University in New York City and hold an MA in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University. I look forward to meeting you! -- Katie Colton is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. You are seeking therapy because you know it’s time for a change. Your anxiety or trauma have affected how you see and interact with the world, and feeling more at peace seems like a hard-to-reach place. Oftentimes, we’re our own worst critics. You may be telling yourself that you can’t meet your work or academic goals, address challenging relationship issues, or develop the self-esteem and creativity you need to succeed on your path in life. Your perspective of the world may have been shaped by childhood experiences you had little to no control over. Maybe you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have lost the support of your family or loved ones due to issues related to your identity. Or perhaps you no longer know who you are anymore, don’t like who you are, or don’t know how to relate to other people. You’re here now because you’ve made the decision to become more aware of the negative self-talk that has been affecting daily functioning and ready to learn what to do with it when it comes around. In confronting your fears, and looking within yourself, you learn to understand how to make sense of the world, how to better cope with strategies and tools that are actually useful and your focus begins to shift to things that you can actually control. Seeking change is no small feat and takes incredible courage! Luckily, you don’t have to walk this path alone. Creating a safe space where you get to challenge those beliefs, invest in your well-being, and improve your overall life satisfaction is my highest priority.
