At Green Sheep, we believe in making therapy a space for creative experimentation, playfulness, and gratifying personal expansion. Practicing from an integrative feminist, strength-based, existential perspective, we affirm that every person is capable of utilizing and building upon their strengths and resources. I am particularly passionate about working with trans and LGB+ individuals, partners, and families, but am welcoming of all genders and all sexuality presentations. I work with teens, adults, pre-teens, partners/relationships, families, and groups. I work with a range of people, and enjoy working with those who have experienced family conflict or estrangement, dissociative disorders, anxiety, depression, body image issues, gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, religious trauma, sexual trauma, medical trauma, or involvement in cults. As a counselor, I integrate various modalities into treatment based on client needs, including art therapy, relational cultural therapy, existential therapy, internal family systems, constructivist theories, and narrative therapy. Emphasizing parts work, my focus is on developing the inner healing intelligence that exists within each individual. Art therapy serves as a powerful tool in this journey, helping clients recognize, access, and connect with their inner healing intelligence through artistic expression. Whether you have prior art experience or not, art therapy is a tangible reminder of progress and aids in letting go of emotional burdens, facilitating positive and lasting change. We can decide together whether we might use art in our sessions together, and how it might be used. By learning new skills as well leaning on your inner healing intelligence, you can achieve deeper self-understanding, manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, assert boundaries, and enhance self-image. Developing your authentic self becomes a powerful remedy for various emotional struggles, enabling a more balanced and fulfilling life. I am unable to accept insurance at this time, though I do help with billing out of network for those that have this option on their plan. Welcome! I consider counseling a creative space in which you and I collaborate to understand your interpersonal patterns, explore your emotions, build an individualized set of coping skills, and create accountability for working toward your goals. I specialize in treatment for adults, and I work with individuals and couples to understand the roots of your current distress, target issues that are causing daily problems, build self-compassion, and develop evidence-based strategies for ongoing management of symptoms. I work well with individuals and couples who are ready to make and change and motivated for therapy. I am an integrative therapist, meaning I use tools and frameworks from various approaches to counseling based on your unique needs, identities, and lived experiences. My doctoral-level training has supported me in understanding current research to provide you evidence-based interventions in addition to a warm and supportive space to process. I also offer psychodiagnostic assessment, including testing for mood disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, and general IQ testing. Please feel free to reach out for more details. Congratulations on taking steps to getting support! Therapy is a way to not feel so alone with our pain, change our thoughts and behaviors so they are more adaptive, and allow us to live in a more expansive way. I see you as the expert on you, and my role as an expert in healing, together we collaborate to get you where you want to be in life. Brain science, attachment theory (childhood relationship with our caregivers), and the context of our culture (as it intersects with our identities) are the lenses I use to strengthen your awareness, feel feelings, and heal. Laughter and peace are a necessary part of healing too! I am trained in art therapy, attachment-focused EMDR, Brainspotting, and "parts work," or Internal Family Systems, to work with the limbic area (where trauma is stored) of the brain in order to heal both "big T" and "little t" trauma. Studies have shown that in order to heal trauma and change thoughts/feelings/behavior body and brain based therapies are necessary.
I help people access greater psychological and emotional wellness by working through trauma, unhealthy relational patterns, and old beliefs. If you find that family or romantic relationships are difficult, you are socially isolated, your career or school performance is suffering, or you struggle with anxiety, depression or loss, therapy can help. Our work together can allow you to cultivate deeper self-understanding and acceptance, which are the stepping-stones to a more vital, engaged, and fulfilling life. I am experienced working with depression, anxiety, and other mental health diagnoses, but I never see my clients as simply a diagnosis. I see race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, and age as relevant to your experience and to therapy.
Often our first response to misfortune is to fight against it. While we may have skillful ways of doing this, our efforts nevertheless become futile and disconnect us from others. Our energy gets bound up, we get stuck in elusive cycles. However, our truths are complex and deserve to be recognized. I provide a focused and understanding space that supports you opening to your own aliveness and your voice. I bring my full attention, my honest feeling, and I will share what I see will help you. In a setting of mutual respect and trust, and with your active participation, I will encourage and challenge you to take risks to be more honest and vulnerable with yourself and in your relationships. The result is often a more comfortable, effective and empowered sense of self from which one can thrive. I offer individual therapy to adults who are interested in exploring one's relationship with oneself, including through dreams and creative process. I have a special interest in working with anxiety, depression, grief and self-esteem.
Our life experiences impact who we are and who we become. The positive experiences stay with us, but the negative experiences stay with us as well. Sometimes it helps to look at all these experiences – both positive and negative to help us gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. The relationships we have had throughout our lives are also deeply influential in shaping who we are and our current relationships. Therapy can be helpful in giving each person a greater sense and deeper understanding of who they are and how their relationships and experiences have impacted them. By looking at all these pieces we can place them together to form a whole picture.
I have a real passion for working with folks during difficult life transitions such as going to college, experiencing heartbreak, pregnancy, and becoming a parent. I believe in the healing power of connection and offer a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself. We will work together to establish your therapy goals, and I will continually check in on our dynamic to make sure you feel supported and understood. Ultimately, you are the expert on yourself. I will show up with compassion, curiosity, and authenticity. Trying to find a therapist who feels right for you can be daunting. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation where we can get to know each other, discuss your current concerns, and see if we are a good fit.
