Guessing your way through life is stressful. I work with college students who are realizing that there's a lot of things that they weren't taught in school and are ready to take control of their future. Now that you have more freedom and choice, you also have to figure out what to do with it. Who are you? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do with your life? How do you get there? If you're starting out college, you might be trying to get yourself into a routine, make new friends, navigate the campus dating scene, decide on a major, or handle the stress of midterms/finals. Maybe you're past that part of your college experience, but you still haven't found a good solution to those problems: still putting off studying, dealing with friend drama, having ups and downs with dating, etc. And if you're getting towards the end of your college experience, you might be worried out about what you're going to do after college and what that will look like. You don't need to figure all that out on your own. I help people get to the root of their problems so that they can understand themselves and others better. If you can understand your past and unlearn things that aren't helping you anymore, then you can replace them with healthy ways to move forward with confidence.

At EmBODY Confidence, we support neurodivergent women and teens who struggle with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, anxiety, low self-esteem, and emotional dysregulation. Our approach is grounded in compassion, authenticity, and self-understanding, helping you feel truly at home in your body without shame or apology. You want to trust your emotions, take up space, eat without guilt, and show up fully in your life. We are here to help you get there with compassion, clarity, and courage. Together, we explore the deeper roots of your struggles, build awareness of the systems that created them, and develop tools for lasting change. We work collaboratively, because you know yourself and your body best. We are a fat-positive, anti-diet, LGBTQIA+, and gender-affirming practice aligned with Health at Every Size® (HAES). EmBODY Confidence is neurodivergent-affirming and committed to creating a space where every body, identity, and mind is welcomed and safe. Research shows that neurodivergent women and LGBTQIA+ individuals are more likely to experience eating disorders or disordered eating patterns than cisgender individuals. Unfortunately, traditional treatment models often fail to meet their unique needs. Our work bridges that gap with affirming, specialized care designed specifically for you. You do not have to do this alone. Healing is possible and you are absolutely worthy of it.

You're feeling overwhelmed, and the constant worry and overthinking start to pile up. School already has enough challenges, and now life stuff and Covid is thrown in the mix. Anxiety sucks! It is paralyzing, and you feel stuck under all the pressure to make the right decisions, get all that work done, and keep it together. You may ask yourself, Why am I like this? Why can't I start that paper/project? I can't ever relax!" Maybe you find yourself a sensitive person, or you can't say no. Feelings of shame creep in, and it is a neverending cycle of feeling shut down while trying to navigate life transitions. Our clients are like you. Imagine being able to start that paper or make decisions without spiraling. Or going into a social situation with confidence. Better yet, not feeling alone in a room full of people. We understand how anxiety works and learned the skills to manage it not only for ourselves but to help others like you break the cycle of suffering. We focus on providing a safe space to be yourself as you process and learn skills to take control of your life.
People come to me because they are struggling and feel stuck or overwhelmed. I see lots of college students in my practice and specialize in working with people who are challenged by anxiety, ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (level 1) but I have experience with many different issues. My approach involves providing information about how the brain works, how to use it as your ally instead of an enemy, and how to find strength in the very things that challenge you. (ex: There are so many wonderful things about having ADHD!) I do this in the context of interpersonal relationships where we talk about things like identity and communication/conflict resolution skills. I also work with people going through a major life transition. I will help you to sort through your feelings and options, work with you to find insights that inspire positive decisions and changes, and help you to be patient with yourself as you work to figure things out. I pride myself as being an LGBTQ affirming therapist. 15 minute walk from WCU. I also have free, off-street parking. Rates listed below are my discount rates for registered students and not my full rate.

At reNEW YOU Counseling and Wellness, LLC we believe that every individual from the beginning of their life was filled with purpose and meaning. *Due to the current Covid-19 crises, my practice is set up to see patients thru video conference calling which is HIPPA compliant for privacy. I believe that individual therapy is the bedrock of mental health change especially for personal issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship self esteem and emotional problems of living. Counseling with your therapist needs to be collaborative where clients sort out thoughts and feelings in order to get a better understanding of who they are. Counseling is completely different from person to person. One client may want more advice or suggestions. Another might want mostly to vent and to be heard. Still others may need to be challenged or confronted. In general, though, most therapists believe that counseling helps us understand thoughts and feelings about ourselves that we have not previously fully recognized. Sigmund Freud referred to this process as making that which is unconscious conscious. I trust that clients know deep down what should be talked about in therapy and that they mostly need help knowing how to access these thoughts and feelings in order to realize what it is they want and need from others and their lives. My approach is eclectic or integrative, but I use many behavioral and cognitive-behavioral approaches in my work. I am particularly interested in evidenced-based and best practices approaches to treatment and so I continually challenge myself to learn newly refined techniques and approaches and provide each patient with the best of my learning over 30 years of practice in multiple settings. I am humanistic and client centered as well and and have found that it often helps patients to know that their therapist is a regular, genuine and authentic individual who is dedicated to my profession and feels that much can be learned from the relationship of therapy. Many clients come to a therapist’s office because they are struggling in their relationships. Paying attention to how your relationship develops in the office can help you understand how really important social interactions in your life outside of the therapeutic relationship actually work.
